49 Freakonomics by Stephen Levitt and Stephen J Dubner

o hai. I finally read the book everyone else on the planet has read. And o c, it was fascinating.

    50/50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gossip Girl by Cecily Von Ziegesar

lulz! I'm done! I finished fifty books! I decided to go with Gossip Girl because I figured that when I talk about this goal with others they would ask what was my last book and it would be funny to say Gossip Girl.

also, I have been putting off children's lit and teen lit until I finished this project so I figured it was a good diving board into these genres.

I did it! Now I refuse to read anything until January. kbai.

I'm Teri, I read lots of books, and I vote Obama. Trust the intellectuals. They read.

46/50 Chasing Lolita: How Popular Culture Corrupted Nabokov's Little Girl All Over Again by Graham Vickers

47/70 On Writing by Stephen King

"There were times-- especially in summer, while swallowing my afternoon salt-pill-- when it occured to me that I was simply repeating my mother's life. Usually this thought struck me as funny. But if I happened to be tired, or if there were extra bills to pay and no money to pay them with, it seemed awful. I'd think This isn't the way our lives are supposed to be going. Then I'd think Half the world has the same idea.

-- On Writing by Stephen King

48/50 Gonzalez and Daughter Trucking Co. by Maria Amparo Escandon

    what a cute little novel.

"Turning Indiana Blue"-- In the article they mention the "donut" counties, including Hamilton and so on. Its interesting because Eric's from Carmel (mentioned in the article) as is his mother. Carmel is a high-income suburb and rarely has demo signs. Both Eric and his mother voted Barack.

Despite what happens, this election is FASCINATING!

    books! books! books!
44/50 The Lives They Left Behind: Suitcases from a State Hospital Attic by Darby Penney

It is actually a pretty interesting premise--these peeps entered an abandoned mental hospital and found all sorts of suitcases from the inhabitants and picked a few people to research their backgrounds etc. These suitcases also made a museum display somewhere.

45/50 The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own by Nina Garcia

I can't say Nina Garcia without pronouncing it like Heidi. O.C. this book was good. Its an alphabetical list of the 100 essential items and where to get it/how to obtain the look/etc. Pretty interesting. Reignites my desire for a Birkin, although, I probably only want a birkin because I know I'll never have one....I saw Rachel Zoe wearing one on her show the other day and got all baglusty.

okay so right now I've got a book about alcohol (that book is going slowly), a book about Lolita, a book about Music and its effects on the brain. um..and some other books. I need some fiction.

42/50 Thin is the new Happy by Valerie Frankel

Twice when boif called I was reading this book and I'd respond that I was "reading a book" and he'd say "which book" and I'd have to embarassingly admit the title. what a stupid title. but the book was pretty interesting. a good read for someone like me--who has dealt with the same shit she has her whole life. and perfectly timed. I was getting all obsessive and I needed a reminder that its about loving life, not hating it.

43/50 The Firstborn Advantage: Making Your Birth Order Work for you by Dr. Kevin Leman

I'm totes interested in birth order stuff and of course, stuff pertaining to myself. It was really interesting The only thing that bugged me was occasionally political stuff. For example, he used the term "God Almighty" like seven times in the book. and he mentioned something about how bullies today bring in knives and guns. I was like....um...stop watching tv and start writing books. He was a little to trendy or something. But anyway, it was still rather interesting and I'll probs read his other book about all birth order stuff.

    boox!
40/50 The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins

As I've read this book, I've also been incredibly overanalytical and depressed about my various situations. And then to top it off, I lay in bed obsessing over the finality of death and my coming-to-grips with there not being an afterlife(?).

This is why I've got to change my workout shizz around. Because I need an endorphin influenced distraction.

    BUT! Yes, finished the book.

38/50 Vile Bodies by Evelyn Waugh

weird, I thought I posted this already. Anyway, I suggest this to Jessica Coyle.

39/50 Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

oy vey. Although I must admit to preferring Hundred Years.

My sister always read her Marquez in Spanish and I'm entirely jealous! I could never steal those books and read them. bitch.

Haha, its about time I learned spanish so I can read Neruda and Marquez and other Spanish authors--the way they should be read.

35/50 No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July

It was reg good. I mean, it was better than a lot of books people shit their pants for and seem to think should be required reading so...it has that going for it!

Right now, I'm in the middle of a biography of L.M. Montgomery, Dawkins's "The God Delusion," a book about the history of alcohol (although very Euro-centric), and some novel I'm waiting to read by the pool.

These will all be offset by Michelle's gracious lending of the fourth season of "Six Feet Under" omg. I think this show should just be called "Six Feet Under Omg."
